HURRICANE CHEER TRYOUTS!

 
  • Again this year we will have TWO TRYOUTS, one for Football season and one for Basketball season (to be held in the fall).

  • Depending on number of people trying out, we may have 1 team (Varsity only) or 2 teams (Varsity and JV).

FOOTBALL SEASON ONLY!

In order to participate, you must have filled in the online Waiver!!!

Important Dates:

  • Tryout Clinic - Tuesday, 3/24 - 3:00-6:00 pm - Grace Church Taylors Gym (2701 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville). 
    • What we will be doing - Learning a new dance and cheer
    • What you need to wear - T-shirt, Shorts, Black compression shorts under your shorts, flat-soled shoes
       
  • Tryouts - Saturday, 3/28 - 9:00 am - 3:00 pm - Grace Church Taylors Gym (2701 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville)
    • What you need to wear - T-shirt, Shorts, Black compression shorts under your shorts, flat-soled shoes. MUST BE IN TEAM COLORS--RED, BLACK, OR WHITE
       
  • Rosters - will be sent out on Sunday, 3/29.
     
  • Mandatory Registration/Orientation Meeting - Thursday, 4/9, 6:00-7:00 pm at Grace Church Taylors Gym (2701 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville)

Location - Grace Church Taylors (2701 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville, SC)  Please park behind the church and enter the glass doors in the back.

Who Can Participate – Girls and guys 6th-12th (school year 20/21). Must be homeschooled OR in a traditional school that does not offer Cheer. No experience necessary.

SEASON INFORMATION

Practices – Tuesday/Friday, 3:00-5:00 pm August-November (End of football season)

Mandatory Cheer Camp - Week of June 1st - 9:00am - 5:00pm - This Cheer Camp will cost $200/athlete and will be run by the Universal Cheerleading Association (3 days) and Hurricane Cheerleading Staff (2 days). Fundraiser opportunity will be provided. A $50 DEPOSIT WILL BE REQUIRED WHEN REGISTERING FOR THE SEASON.

Summer – Cheerleaders will be provided a conditioning schedule.

Program will involve – teamwork, jumps, cheers, stunting, tumbling, spirit, voice projection, positive attitude, athletic dance

Program Manager / Head Coach - CRYSTAL SMITH started dancing at age 3 and was professionally trained in tap, jazz and ballet for 13 years, with the last 4 of those years being competitive. She received a varsity letter for all five years of cheerleading from 8th grade through 12th grade and was selected to be on the competitive cheerleading squad all four years of high school. Crystal was named a UCA (Universal Cheerleading Association) All-Star all five years of her cheerleading involvement. In addition to dance and cheer, she also played varsity softball from 8th-12th grade. She has been assisting alongside Coach Shayna Holman during the 2019/2020 season. Crystal has received her spirit safety certification with the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches & Administrators. She has been married to Scott for 15 years and has 5 children.

Games – The Varsity Cheer Squad will be cheering for the Varsity Football Team. If a separate JV Cheer Squad is formed, they will be cheering for the JV Football Team. JV games are on Thursdays. Varsity games are on Fridays or Saturdays.

Program Costs –

  • Uniform - $150 - includes top, skirt, warm-up jacket, poms, bow, shirt. The uniform is the same as used in the 2019/2020 season. Returning cheerleaders will not need to purchase a new uniform.
     
  • Registration - $150
     
  • Required Cheer Camp (week of 6/1) - This Cheer Camp will cost $200/athlete and will be run by the Universal Cheerleading Association. Fundraiser opportunity will be provided. A $50 DEPOSIT WILL BE REQUIRED AT REGISTRATION.
     
  • Shoes (purchased individually – see below)
     
  • Black Compression Shorts  (purchased individually- see below)

Athletes participating in the Football season will only pay an additional $50 if they also participate in the Basketball season.

Girls Uniform
 

Things to Buy on Your Own - Cheerleaders are required to get their own shoes and black compression shorts.

  • Shoes – Solid white cheerleading shoes with flat bottom. (Can be purchased at Academy Sports)

                                                                 

  • Black Compression Shorts – Must hit mid-thigh and be worn under shorts at practice and the uniform at all times. You can find a variety of options at many different stores. You can also look up “spandex shorts” on Google or Amazon. Must look something similar to this:
