Hurricane Athletics offers a Cross Country program in the fall of the school year, to athletes 6th to 12th grades.  The program is open for all home schooled students, as well as traditionally schooled students whose school does not provide a cross country program. Winter and Spring conditioning season are also offered.

Fall Cross Country Season Information

Who Can Participate:

Hurricane Cross Country is open to male and female students in 6th-12 grades who are homeschooled or who attend a school that does not offer a Cross Country program.


Costs:

Registration Fee - $110

Discounts

  • Multiple runners in the same family will receive a $25 discount.

  • 6th Graders will receive a $25 discount.(6th graders cannot participate in some competitive meets.)

Uniform - $50, if needed (We will reuse black uniforms and cycle out any previous ones. Because these are not personalized, runners can wear previous runners uniforms if available and they coordinate themselves.)


Paperwork Requirements:

Athletes must turn in a sports physical, completed by a physician within the last year and a copy of birth certificate. (For returning athletes, birth certificates are kept on file.) These must be turned in at the 7/24 first practice.


Equipment:

Athletes should have appropriate running attire, running shoes, and a stop watch. They will need a water bottle and towel or yoga mat at all practices.


Prerequisite:

Students should be able to run one mile in 10 minutes, as a prerequisite for fall cross country. Please contact Coach Julie to discuss if your child has not participated in the past.


Season Dates:

Our first practice will be Tuesday, July 24, 2018. We will have a short parent meeting that day at 3:30pm.

The last event of the season will be the Independent Championship on October 27, 2018.


Practice Information:

Practices are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday primarily at Taylors First Baptist Fields (Taylors Road). Most practices will be held  from 3:30-5:00 pm, but some may change to 4:30-6:00 pm to accommodate complex schedules. We will also meet at Pittman Park on Blacks Road or the Swamp Rabbit for some long runs. Students are required to attend a minimum of two practices a week unless approved in order to participate in meets. More miles will be assigned for students to complete outside of practices.


Meets:

Please save these dates as possible meet days and recognize we may add or subtract as leads are made for meets.  We run against public, private, and homeschooled students.

  • 8/28/18- Palmetto Friendly

  • 9/1/18- Eye Opener (This is our first truly competitive meet)

  • 9/15/18- GTC Tiger Classic or Hurricanes Invitational

  • 9/26/18- Canned Food 5k

  • 10/4/18- Palmetto Invitational

  • 10/13/18- Sandhills (Columbia, SC)

  • 10/27/18- Independent Championship

Almost all cost for these races  are included in your registration. There are canned food drives, shirt sales, etc that can be additional costs at the meets.

  • Click on the "Registration is Open" banner.

  • If you are new to Hurricane Athletics, you will need to set up an account.

  • Choose to register to Play/Participate
