Hurricane Sports offers both girls and boys volleyball in the fall.  The sport is offered for home schooled students, as well as traditionally schooled students whose school does not offer volleyball.

For girls, we offer volleyball at the middle school, junior varsity and varsity levels.  Tryouts and registration are held in May and there is some practice and conditioning during the summer months.  Games begin around the middle of August and continue through the middle of October.

The boys volleyball program began in 2016 and will continue to expand to different levels as boys volleyball programs develop in the Upstate.

Games are generally no further than 1 hour away, and it is the parents' responsibility to get their athlete to the games, although car pooling is encouraged and often available.

Who Can Try Out:  Girls entering 6th - 12th grades in the 2017/2018 school year who are home schooled or who are traditionally schooled but do not have a girls volleyball program in their school.

When Will Tryouts Be Held:
Monday, May 1:
* MS (rising 6th-8th graders) - 5:00-6:30 PM
* JV/V (rising 9th-12th graders) - 6:30-8:00 PM
Monday, May 8:
* MS (rising 6th-8th graders) - 5:00-6:30 PM
* JV/V (rising 9th-12th graders) -  6:30-8:00 PM
Thursday, May 11:
* MS (rising 6th-8th graders) - 5:00-6:30 PM
* JV/V (rising 9th-12th graders) = 6:30-8:00 PM

Where Will Tryouts Be Held:  Rocky Creek Baptist Church Gym (1801 Woodruff Rd, Greenville)

How Many Tryout Dates Need to be Attended:  Though the girls are only required to attend one of those three try-outs, 2-3 is better if possible.  Each girl will be registererd at the beginning of try-outs and given a number to wear.  This same number should be worn to all successive try-outs attended.

What to expect for the 2017 volleyball season:
July 17-21:  Furman Camp (2-3 evenings, 4 hours each)
July 24-mid August:  2-3 practices per week
Mid August - mid October:  2 practices per week, 2 games per week, and 2-3 all day Saturday tournaments
MS:  $225
JV/V:  $275
Uniform:  approximately $70-75

Although there are valid reasons for a child to have to withdraw from a sports team (injury, moving, etc.), every withdrawal affects the team as a whole.  Please consider carefully before try-outs whether the time commitment and cost of the program will be manageable for your family.  We will be doing a fundraiser again this year to help deflect some of the cost.
