PLEASE NOTE: Any athlete interested in participating on a Hurricanes team MUST be present at tryouts unless there is an unavoidable conflict. If this is not possible for you, please e-mail Randy Lindsey (randy@greenvillehurricanes.com)
As we did last year, we are doing tryouts in the Spring. We will offer up to two (2) tryouts.
- The first tryout will be the main tryout on Monday April 14th. This will be for players interested in playing next year so we can get an early start on our practices. We are planning some scrimmages in June. If you don’t make the team at the April tryout, this will give you an opportunity to work on things during the off season and try out again in the fall if we have spots available.
- If spots are still available, a later tryout day will be in late September or early October. This will be for anyone who:
- did not make the team in the April tryout
- was not able to do the early tryout
- did not know about the tryouts
- was not interested in doing any off season workouts or prefers to pay in the fall
The reason for the new format:
1) We plan to start our pre-season in June. We hope to have scrimmages planned for JV/VG teams. While we know everyone can’t make it to every off-season event, we do expect high participation to help you maximize your basketball experience.
2) Many families like to get visibility to the schedule early. By setting the teams in the Spring, we can enter the game and tournament schedules in TeamSnap as we get them, giving everyone early access to key dates. This also helps us to ensure we have enough players to field the teams for which we are scheduling.
3) We will do off-season/pre-season workouts and want to encourage team and personal development during the off-season.
4) This will also allow families to plan financially and even do fundraising activities early and apply it to fees if they want.
5) Allow us to plan any new uniform sizing and purchases.
Tryout Location: Hampton Heights Baptist Church Gym (2511 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29615)

- JVG/16U - Player is 16 years old or younger on Sept 1, 2025

GIRLS BASKETBALL SEASON INFORMATION
Fall Practice starts the week of October 6th. The practice schedule will vary based on game schedules and gym availability but between the two plan for 3-4 nights a week. We will post a schedule of practice dates and time as well as have them in the TeamSnap App for easy tracking.
Game Schedule: As we schedule the games they will be available on the TeamSnap app after registering online.
Tournaments: Each year we work to include tournaments for our teams. For the 2024-25 season, we are evaluating the following options for tournaments:
- Pre-season Tournament - Nov 1-2, 7-9 or 15-16
- Christmas Tournament - Dec 13-14 or the week before Christmas, or 20-21st.(still working to confirm)
- State Tournament in Easley, SC is typically the first or second week of February. (MSG only)
- JV County Championship (in Greenville County) - JVG only - first couple weeks of February (exact date tbd but we are estimating Feb 7 and Feb 14
- Southeast Regional Tournament - Murfreesboro, TN (the second to last or the last week of February)
- Tentative- East Coast Nationals - Hamilton, OH (March 4-6).
As a team, it is important that if you try out and make the team, you are able to attend all tournaments. Expense related to tournament lodging, meals, and transportation is additional to registration and fundraising. We will do our best to plan some ways to offset this expense for our teams.
Registration Fees:
Parents: Our goal is to develop a program that provides a fun, competitive environment while giving the players the opportunity for development.
As I interact with AAU/Travel Team coaches, I am reminded of the immense value we provide. An AAU team fees range from $850-$2,000 and they do not offer as much training as we do. We want to make the sport as accessible as possible for homeschool athletes, but we do need to ensure we cover expenses. Our costs continue to rise for facility access and equipment.
Note: You do have the option to break up fees into monthly payments.
Girls basketball registration fee covers the following costs
- Administrative expenses to support the team (insurance, personnel, tech, etc)
- Operations - facilities rental expenses, officials, equipment
- Participation in the 2025/26 season
- Uniforms will be loaned - no extra cost to the player (Value MSG=$180 and JV=$180 & VG=$180). Uniforms are the property of the Greenville Hurricanes and will be returned at the end of the season. If a player loses or damages a uniform, the player will be charged the full cost of replacing the damaged or lost jersey.
If you wish to purchase your uniform, please indicate in the registration process what part of the uniform you wish to purchase. There is a minimum order requirement, so we have to coordinate accordingly.
- Participation in the 2026 Off season activities/ Value = $400
- Free access to the home games for immediate family: mom, dad, and siblings.
Registration for the 25/26 Season:
JV/VG - $450 + $150 fundraising
- Season Registration fee (online) = $450 - must be registered by April 21
- Fundraising/Donations due on Nov 3 = $150 (in full or per payment schedule)
MSG - $400 + $150 fundraising
- Season Registration fee (online) = $400 - must be registered by April 21
- Fundraising/Donations due on Nov 3 = $150 (in full or per payment schedule)
Payment Plan: The registration amount for the season can be paid by installment. $100 due at registration and the remainder broken up into 5 monthly payments.
Volunteer Requirements:
The entire girls basketball operation is done with volunteers. We will need volunteers to help with admissions, concessions, scoreboard operations, scorebook, stat tracking, 2nd adult at a few practices, and occasional event support. We will have a minimum amount of spots to fill per athlete.
Fundraising:
This is a critical aspect of our program. We will have individual and group initiatives that each player can use to raise funds to reduce the cost of the program-related fees. If you have any ideas for raising funds, please let us know.
We plan to have the Shoot-a-thon again on October 18th as a fun and engaging way to raise funds.
Donations:
The Greenville Hurricanes is a 501(c)(3) and is a great way to support girls basketball in our community. If you, a friend or family member is interested in making a donation and receiving a tax deduction it is a great way to offset our program expenses and continue to enhance future basketball equipment and gym needs. Donations are still made to the Greenville Hurricanes, just let us know it is designated for Girls Basketball.
