CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS & SEASON INFO 2024/25 - SIGN UP FOR TRYOUTS!
It's time for Greenville Hurricanes Cheerleading Tryouts! Please note that you must be signed up in order to try out, and signups are now open. Both returning and new cheerleaders must be signed up.

This year, we will continue to offer our traditional JV and Varsity Sideline Cheerleading teams, but we will also be offering a BRAND NEW GREENVILLE HURRICANES COMPETITION CHEERLEADING TEAM!
There will only be ONE tryout for cheerleading for all of the 2024/2025 school year! This tryout is for Football Season, Competition Team and Basketball Season.
- There will NOT be a separate tryout for Basketball Season
- Any Football Seasson cheerleader who does not want to cheer for Basketball Season is not required to.
- There will be NO new cheerleaders brought on for Basketball Season.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to try out, each girl and one parent must attend a pre-tryout informational meeting. This includes returning cheerleaders. There are 2 options available:
- Saturday, March 9, 5pm at Grace Church Gym, following the Cheerleading Skills Clinic
- Thursday, April 4, 7pm at El Bethel Baptist Church (313 Jones Avenue, Greenville, SC)
When signing up for tryouts, you will be asked which date you are planning to attend.

- Wednesday, June 5, 9am-5pm AND Thursday, June 6, 9am-2:30pm - Mandatory Cheer Camp (Sideline Only)
- Friday, June 7, 9am-6pm AND Saturday, June 8, 9am-2:30pm - Mandatory Cheer Camp (Competition Only in addition to Sideline Camp)
- Thursday, August 15 - First JV Home Game
- Friday, August 16 - First Varsity Home Game
(There will NOT be any makeup tryouts! April 12 & 13 are the ONLY date for tryouts.
No late or virtual tryouts will be accepted.)
WHEN:

- Saturday, April 13, 9:00am-5:45pm
- This is a combined two-day tryout. There will be cuts at the end of Friday. Final teams will be announced at the end of the day on Saturday.
WHERE: El Bethel Baptist Church (313 Jones Avenues, Greer, SC)
WHO:
- Sideline - Rising 6th-12 grades in the 24/25 school year
- Competitive Team - Rising 7th-12 grades in the 24/25 school year
- Any athlete is eligible if they are homeschooled or attend a school that does not offer Cheerleading.
- Teams will be decided based on skills set and grade at tryouts.
WHAT TO WEAR: Athletic gear that is appropriate for lots of movement. Shoes must have flat soles. Athletes should wear plain black clothing. Hair should all be pulled back. No jewelry may be worn.
TRYOUT SIGNUPS: You MUST be signed up for tryouts (includes returning cheerleaders). There is no charge for tryout signups. TRYOUT SIGNUPS CLOSE at midnight on Wednesday, April 10.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Varsity Sideline Requirements -
- Hold bridge
- Kick up to handstand
- Clean cartwheel
- Dance with coordination
- Sharp motions
- Ability to lead the crowd
- High energy
- Willing to participate in summer conditioning/practices
- Toe touch to counts
- Good attitude
- Coachable
- Prior dance/cheer experience is recommended but is not required
- Willing to learn 45+ cheers from videos over the summer if accepted on the team.
If the above skills/requirements are not met (and based on age) the athlete may be considered for the JV squad. A Varsity cheerleader can be as young as 6th grade, with advanced skills.
JV Sideline Requirements -
- Able to perform dances and cheers with rhythm and coordination
- Attempt a toe touch to counts
- Willing to try different stunt positions
- Energetic and able to lead a crowd
- Good attitude
- Coachable
- No prior experience necessary
- Willing to learn 45+ cheers from videos over the summer if accepted on the team.
A JV Cheerleader can be up to 10th grade.
Competitive Team Requirements -
- Able to learn and perform a competion-style dance to fast-paced music and counts.
- Clean, sharp motions
- Able to do 2 consecutive jumps to counts
- Able to tumble to counts in a clean manner
- Willing to progress in tumbling classes - optional classes are offered at Tumble Tech Elite.(More info will be provided)
- Willing to learn advanced stunting skills
- Coachable
- Available on Saturdays (and one Wednesday) for competitions
- High energy
- Willing to participatein summer practices/conditioning
- Willing to perform in front of a crowd
- Willing to learn a 2 minute, 30 second routine in the summer
- Mandatory May 4 Stunt Clinic - $25
We will be competing with local high school teams. The competition team will be decided at tryouts. Any athlete in 7th-12th grades is eligible to try out for the competition team. Competitions will be hosted on Saturdays (with the exception of one competition which is held on a Wednesday).
SUMMER PRACTICES:
Summer practices will be mandatory for JV, Varsity and Competition. If you have a conflict with these dates, you must contact the coaches beforehand so they can plan around the athlete's absence.
- JV Sideline - Practice starts Wednesday, May 1, 3:30-5:30 at Grace Church Taylors. It will continue every Wednesday at this time through the end of Football Season (11/2).
- Varsity Sideline - Practice starts Wednesday, May 1, 3:30-5:30 at El Bethel Baptist Church. It will continue every Wednesday at this time through the end of Football Season (11/2).
- Competition - Practice starts Monday, April 29th, 3:30-6:30 at Grace Church Taylors. It will continue every Monday at this time through the end of Football Season (11/2).
MANDATORY CHEER CAMP (JV & Varsity Sideline):
- WHEN: Wednesday, June 5th, 9am-4:30pm AND Thursday, June 6th, 9am-2:30pm
- WHERE: Tumble Tech Elite Easley (2121 Farrs Bridge Road, Easley, SC)
- WHAT: At this sideline camp, athletes will learn how to stunt, tumble and jump, with instructions from professional coaches. We will play games, learn new cheers and dances, and have lots of opportunities for team bonding.
- COST: $250 ($100 - 2 days of camp / $150 - Camp Clothes & Gear)
- WHEN: Friday, June 7th, 9am-6pm AND Saturday, June 8th, 9am-2:30pm
- WHERE: Tumble Tech Elite Easley (2121 Farrs Bridge Road, Easley, SC)
- WHAT: Our Competition Cheerleaders will participate in this camp in addition to the Sideline Camp above. In this additional camp, they will receive 2 days of choreography with custom music from professional coaches. They will use this time to learn their routine for the competition season.
- COST: $250 (2 days of custom choreography) - This $250 is in addition to the $250 for Sideline Camp
FUNDRAISER: We will be doing a fundraiser at the beginning of the season (SnapRaise as in previous years). This is a great way to cover the costs of your cheerleader. ALL MONIES RAISED BY EACH CHEERLEADER WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THEIR CAMP AND SEASON COSTS! Monies that come in over and above a cheerleader's costs will go to Hurricanes Cheerleading. This has been a very successful fundraiser for the past 2 years.
UNIFORMS:
We will be getting new uniforms and gear this year for both the JV and Varsity teams. The new uniform package will include:
- Uniform - Shell Top + Skirt
- Sleeves (high neck, like the ones from last year)
- Spandex (to go under the uniform)
- Poms
- Book Bag
- Jacket
- Bow
- Shoes
- Sideline Only (JV or Varsity) - $975
- Registration - $100

- Birth Certificate - All new athletes are required to turn in a copy of their birth certificate.
- Sports Physical - All athletes must have a sports physical on file, and it may not be older than 1 year old at any time during the season (see below).
Greenville Hurricanes is offering physicals again this year at a fabulous price of $25. We have a new spring date in April! See below!

GREENVILLE HURRICANES CHEERLEADING
LITTLECANES CHEERLEADING SQUAD 2024
(1st-5th grades)
For the 2024 season, our LittleCanes Cheerleaders will be cheering for the Hurricanes 12U Football Team. Take a look at all the information below! We will take the first 25 registrants. We're looking forward to a great new year of LittleCanes Cheerleading!
WHO: Any girl in 1st-5th grade in the 24/25 school year who loves Hurricanes Football and loves to cheer!
TEAM: Our LittleCanes will be cheering for the Hurricanes 12U Football Team.
CAMP: We will prep for our season with a 2-day camp June 14th & 15th, 8am-12noon. This camp is mandatory and will be the time the girls learn jumps, stunting and cheers. (Location TBD)
PRACTICE: LittleCanes Cheerleaders will arrive one hour before games to review cheers, stunts and jumps. There will also be 2 additional summer practice days (Location TBD):
- Thursday, July 11, 9am-12pm
- Thursday August 1, 9am-12pm
GAMES: We will cheer at approximately 8 games, usually on Monday or Thursday nights. These games will be held at different Greenville County fields (i.e., Northside and East Riverside).
HURRICANES HOMECOMING: As a special event, we plan for our LittleCanes to join our Varsity Cheerleaders at the Hurricanes Homecoming on September 26. LittleCanes will be part of the run-through on the field for the players. They will cheer and stunt with our Varsity Cheerleaders during one quarter of the game.
SHOWCASE NIGHT: Our LittleCanes will participate along with our JV and Varsity teams in a Showcase Night for friends and family the end of October.

REGISTRATION FEE: $100
UNIFORM FEE:
- Returning Cheerleaders - $25 for new skirt (required--old skirt is out of stock)
- New Cheerleaders - $70 (includes skirt, top, poms and bow)
- Cheerleaders will purchase their own shoes. Cheer shoes are optional. Shoes must be white.

GREENVILLE HURRICANES CHEERLEADING
The Greenville Hurricanes is a volunteer-based program. Each family is responsible to sign up for a role to support the program.

For middle school or high school participants who are wanting to try out for Hurricanes Cheer for the 24/25 school year, there will be a meeting immediately following the performance. This meeting is mandatory for any girl that is trying out for the 24/25 Hurricane Cheerleading teams -- new or returning.

- Rising K5-5th - 8am-12pm / Performance at 11:30am - Parents Invited!
- Rising 6th-12th - 1pm-5pm / Performance at 4:30pm - Parents Invited!

About The Canes
Greenville Hurricane Athletics is a 501(c)(3) organization created to provide athletic opportunities to elementary, middle school and high school students. This athletic program is open to the greater homeschooling community and private, Christian, Charter or alternative education groups that may not offer that particular sport in their own organization.
