Who Can Try Out: Any home schooled student (or a traditionally schooled student whose school does not offer girls basketball), 6th grade to 12th grade. It is the age eligibility policy of Greenville Hurricanes that athletes for the 2024/2025 school year do not turn 11 after 12/31/24 and do not turn 19 before 3/1/25.

Other (non-game related) Important Dates:  .

Fall Practice Schedule:

Fall Practice starts immediately after tryouts. The practice schedule will vary based on game schedules and gym availability but between the two is 3-4 nights a week. We will post a schedule of practice dates and time as well as have them in the Mobile App for easy tracking.

Game Schedule:  As we schedule the games they will be available on your Mobile app after registering online.

Tournaments:  Each year we work to include tournaments for our teams. For the 2024-25 season, we are evaluating the following options for tournaments:

• Varsity Pre-season Tournament - Nov 1-2, 7-9 or 15-16
• JV Christmas Tournament - Dec 14 or the week before Christmas.(still working on a Varsity tournament
• Varsity Bob Jones University Invitational - Jan 21-24
• State Tournament in Easley, SC is typically the first or second week of February. Currently we are estimating Feb 6-8.  (MSG/JVG/VG)
• JV County Championship (in Greenville County) - JVG only - first couple weeks of February (exact date tbd but we are estimating Feb 1 and Feb 8)
• Southeast Regional Tournament - Murfreesboro, TN (the second to last or the last week of February)
• (JVG/VG only)East Coast Nationals - Gatlinburg, TN (typically the first week of March).

As a team, it is important that if you try out and make the team, you are able to attend all tournaments. Expense related to tournament lodging, meals, and transportation is additional to registration and fundraising. We will do our best to plan some ways to offset this expense for our teams.

Registration Fees:

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Parents: Our goal is to develop a program that provides a fun, competitive environment while giving the players the opportunity for development.

We are breaking up the fees as follows:

1. The amount due at registration as we start in October for season
2. The amount each athlete will need to generate in donations/fundraisers. We allow the fundraising amount to either be paid up front or broken up into $50 payments due Nov 1, Dec 1, and Jan 1. You will have the option to set this up automatically at registration and drafted each of those months.

Girls basketball registration fee covers the following costs

1. Administrative expenses to support the team (insurance, personnel, etc)
2. Operations - facilities expenses, officials, equipment
3. Participation in the 2024/25 season
4. Uniforms will be loaned - no extra cost to the player (Value MSG=$180 and JV=$180 & VG=$180). Uniforms are the property of the Greenville Hurricanes and will be returned at the end of the season. If a player loses or damages a uniform, the player will be charged the full cost of replacing the damaged or lost jersey.
   If you wish to purchase your uniform, please indicate in the registration process what part of the uniform
5. Participation in the 2025 Spring League $200 value
6. Free access to the home games for immediate family: mom, dad, and siblings living at home.

JV/VG - $550 ($400 Season Registration + $150 fundraising)

• Season Registration fee (online) = $400 - due at registration
• Fundraising/Donations due on Nov 1 = $150 (in full or per payment schedule)

MSG  -  $500 ($350 Season Registration + $150 fundraising)

• Season Registration fee (online) = $350 due at registration
• Fundraising/Donations due on Nov 1 = $150  (in full or per payment schedule)

Volunteer Requirements
The entire girls basketball operation is done with volunteers. We will need volunteers to help with admission, concessions, scoreboard operations, scorebook, stat tracking, 2nd adult at a few practices, and occasional event support. We will have a minimum amount of spots to fill per athlete.

Fundraising
This is a critical aspect of our program. We will have individual and group initiatives that each player can use to raise funds to reduce the cost of the program-related fees. If you have any ideas for raising funds, please let us know.
We plan to have the Shoot-a-thon again in October (10/19) as a fun and engaging way to raise funds.

Donations
The Greenville Hurricanes is a 501(c)(3) and is a great way to support girls basketball in our community. If you, a friend or family member is interested in making a donation and receiving a tax deduction it is a great way to offset our program expenses and continue to enhance future basketball equipment and gym needs. Donations are still made to the Greenville Hurricanes, just let us know it is designated for Girls Basketball.

Sports Physical: A physical is NOT required to participate in tryouts, however a physical will be necessary to complete your registration. Physicals cannot be more than a year old. Check out the link below to see when your child's physical expires.

Tryout Location:  Fairview Baptist Church ROC GYM (938 Lakeview Cir #900, Greer, SC 29651 )

Who Can Try Out: Any homeschooled student grades 4th-5th grade. (4th & 5th graders are defined as players that are at least 9 to 10 years of age on September 1, 2024.)

Coaches for 2024/25 Season: 
If you are interested in coaching the Little Canes team, please include that in the registration process. Our goal this year is to have our Varsity players assist in practices, but we will need two adults to serve as coaches.

SEASON INFO
Parents: Our goal is to develop a program that provides a competitive environment while giving the players the opportunity for development. LittleCanes is a great start, and our goal is to provide as much game time play as possible. The plan is to have 10 players on the team, per league rules.

Other Important Dates:  

• 10/8-  Tryouts. The plan is to let players know at tryouts if they made the team. We will officially post on or before 10/14 and start registration.
• 10/14 - Registration Payment Due
• 10/15- Practices begin (a full pre-season practice schedule will be available in our TeamSnap app.)
• 11/11 or 11/18 - Estimated date of games beginning. Games are on Saturdays

Practice Schedule:
Practice starts on October 8th. Our plan is to have practice 1-2 times per week as a team and gym space allows. Currently, that day is Tuesday. Times could be anywhere between 4:30-7p, but currently we have planned from 6-7p. Feedback we received last year was to have more practices. While that will drive the cost up, we will do our best to add additional practice times for the players to develop..

Gym location: Hampton Heights Baptist Church Gym (2511 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29615)

Game Schedule: 
Games are each Saturday, except for holiday weekends (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year) and will be at various church gyms. Games usually start on Nov 11 and end with the post-season tournament on Feb 1st, 8th, or 15th. We do not receive the official schedule until closer to November, but if you are trying out, you should plan to be at all games.

Registration Fees: $150 Registration
Registration fee due at the time of registration = $150

Girls Basketball registration fee covers the following costs:

• Administrative expenses to support the team (insurance, personnel, tech fees, etc)
• Operations - facilities expenses, equipment
• Participation in the 2024/25 season
• Uniform tops will be provided/loaned
  • Player’s jersey top, worn with the player's black or dark shorts (Uniforms will be returned at the end of the season. If a uniform is lost or damaged there will be a $30 replacement fee to cover the cost of replacing)
• Free registration to Boo-sketball Camp on Oct 26th

Refund Policy:
Once you make the team and register, we start incurring costs. We hope you understand the need for the following refund policy.

• Once you register, until Oct 10 - refund will be provided minus $75
• After October 11, no refunds will be issued on any fees paid.

GREENVILLE HURRICANES GIRLS BASKETBALL

Fundraising is an important part of covering the expenses for all our programs. In addition to registration fees, each player will be responsible for fundraising.
